By Scott Porter

Scott Porter: What are you doing right now to prepare for NFL workouts?

Tom Busch: Right now I’m working out 5 days a week with Coach Doyle and his staff at the University of Iowa. We do a series of different drills to prepare us for performing in front of NFL scouts. Coach Doyle and his staff are among the best at what they do, are very professional in everything they do, and are committed to excellence.

Scott Porter: What are you current measurements?

Tom Busch: I’m still 5′10″, but I’ve added a few pounds and am up to about 242 lbs. As far as testing measurements we’ll have to see how I do on Pro Day.

Scott Porter: Is there a player in the NFL that reminds you of yourself?

Tom Busch: Considering that I have never even been in an NFL camp before, I feel that it would be presumptuous to compare myself to any NFL caliber athlete. I admire many NFL players, on as well as off the field, and find there talents to be outstanding.

Scott Porter: What is your favorite memory while playing football at Iowa?

Tom Busch: Winning the Big Ten Championship and the Capital One Bowl were both moments during my career at Iowa that I will always cherish, however, I believe that it’s the bonds and friendships that I’ve made over the past 5 years that are the fondest of my memories

Scott Porter: How has Kirk Ferentz influenced your football career?

Tom Busch: Coach Ferentz is an outstanding individual who is dedicated to success both on and off the field. I have been blessed to have been coached by him as well as his staff for 5 seasons in college. He has positively influenced me as a person in all facets of my life. Coach Jackson has also positively influenced me over the years. He is a great person who truly cares about the student-athlete.

Scott Porter: What do you feel are your biggest strengths?

Tom Busch: I think that no matter what my biggest strengths are, I can improve upon them immensely. I’d say my biggest strengths on the field are my leadership, consistency, and run blocking.

Scott Porter: What kind of a player and person is an NFL team getting in Tom Busch?

Tom Busch: A person that really loves and respects the game of football. I try to be a hustle player that plays with high energy and intensity.

Scott Porter: What are your goals for the NFL?

Tom Busch: Right now I’m taking this process one step at a time. Right now I’m focused on my training and getting my body and mind ready to perform for Pro Day. As far as the big picture, I have briefly opened the door on what my goals are and they are consistent with me trying to be a competitive, high energy player.

Scott Porter: Is there a young player at Iowa that not many have heard of that you think has a chance to be a star?

Tom Busch: The great thing about the University of Iowa is that everyone has an opportunity for success both on and off the field. Every player has potential and Coach Ferentz, Coach Doyle and their staffs do an outstanding job of realizing that potential.

Scott Porter: What are your hobbies off the field?

Tom Busch: I enjoy spending time with family and friends. I like watching movies, listening to music, pretty ordinary stuff. I also like playing table tennis.

Scott Porter: Did you have a favorite team and player growing up as a kid?

Tom Busch: Growing up in Minnesota, I have been a Vikings fan. As far as individual players, Jerry Rice was a particular player that I admired because of his work ethic, great attitude, and consistency.

Scott Porter: How has your brother JoJo influenced you to come to practice and work hard everyday?

Tom Busch: My brother Joey has given me a lot of joy in my life. He’s the kind of guy that will always put a smile on your face. Having Joey in my life allows me to see things in a different perspective. I realize that he will never have the type of opportunities that a lot of us have and that makes me want to work harder.
