Jason Jones Interview

by Luke Paul Chandler

Josh Buchanon talks to the Eastern Michigan defensive end about his draft preparations.

By Josh Buchanon

What are your current measurables such as height, weight, 40, and bench reps?

Jason: I am 6′5, 272 pounds. We haven’t done the 40 or bench press yet.

How did you end up at Eastern Michigan?

Jason: It was my only football offer. I only played two years in
football and I was a better basketball player. I didn’t want to pass
up the chance to have school paid for.

Where have you been training?

Jason: Down in Tennessee in D1 Sports Training with Kurt Hester.

What do you want to work on most before the draft?

Jason: Just my bench reps and getting faster. I am trying to perform
real well at the combine so I just have to do position drills at my
pro day. Coach Eddie Khayat who has working with me for the past two
months is also helping me improve my pass rush technique.

Who else is training with you?

Jason: We got Frank Okam, Marcus Monk, Peyton Hillis, Caleb Campbell,
Steve Justice, Kory Lichtensteiger, Brad Cottam, Chris Brown, Geoff
Schwartz, and Weston Dacus.

What do you feel are your biggest strengths on the field?

Jason: My speed, getting off the ball, and athleticism.

What are your biggest weaknesses on the field?

Jason: Since I just moved out to DE from tackle I would say my pass
rush technique. The coach from the Senior Bowl worked with me on
that.

Do you have any players on your team who you feel will be solid NFL
prospects next year?

Jason: We have a left tackle TJ Lane, Tyler Jones our receiver, and
our middle linebacker Daniel Holtzclaw.

Which teams have shown the most interest in you so far?

Jason: I met with the coaching staff of the Seahawks, Dolphins, Jets,
and Lions. The rest I just met with scouts but I didn’t get a good
grasp on how much they like me.

Do you have any expectations on draft day such as a round or team?

Jason: I want to get drafted high but right now I would say between
the 2nd and 4th round.

What are your future goals outside of playing in the NFL?

Jason: I went to school for business management. I want to be in the
business world some type of way.
