Adam “Pacman” Jones traded to Dallas
by Matt Miller
ESPN is reporting the talented, but troubled, cornerback has been traded to the Dallas Cowboys for a 4th round pick. How does this move affect the Cowboys draft plans?
Dallas is sitting pretty with two first round picks this Saturday, picks #22 and #28. Dallas was eyeing a cornerback with at least one of those picks, and a running back with the other. The acquisition of Jones will relieve the need for a cornerback early in the draft. There will be some who say the Cowboys must still draft a corner early, since Jones is still suspended by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell. We say not so fast. Dallas is investing in Jones, he’s paying the Titans a settlement on his contract and all would agree that Jerry Jones is the most influential owner in football. Goodell will be pressured, or convinced, to reinstate Pacman.
Dallas is now free to grab a running back with at least one of their first two picks, but does this allow them to package both picks to move up and get Arkansas running back Darren McFadden? This scenario is likely to play out while St. Louis and Atlanta are on the clock. The belief is that McFadden may not make it past Oakland at #4.
Dallas still has a few needs to address in this year’s draft; namely running back, depth at wide receiver and offensive guard, depth at inside linebacker and potentially a coverage free safety. The team is also expected to draft a quarterback late on day two.
