Inside Information

by Matt Miller

Find out which two quarterbacks are drawing the most attention, which team may make a move to bolster their running game, and more in this edition of Inside Information.

- Talks today with various people around the NFL lead us to believe that Louisville quarterback Brian Brohm has not fallen down draft boards as far as most people think. One NFC South team told us Tuesday night that he hoped Brohm would fall to the second round, where his team would quickly select the talented quarterback.

- Team’s looking for a cornerback who can start early in his rookie season are finding the tape on Antoine Cason very telling. Cason is criticized for not having great speed, but was productive throughout his career. He’s an aggressive man-corner in the Charles Woodson mold. Don’t be shocked if a cover 2 team, specifically Buffalo, pulls the trigger on Cason earlier than expected.

- Joe Flacco’s name hasn’t been as hot since the NFL Combine, but we hear that the Miami Dolphins are enamored with the Delaware product. Miami could select Flacco with the first pick in the second round.

- I’ve spoken with people close to the Dallas Cowboys and there are no indications that the team will move up to get a running back, and may not value a back early in the draft. The team is comfortable with Marion Barber III and feel they can address issues at cornerback, wide receiver and offensive guard first.

- Pittsburgh should be expected to draft as many as three offensive linemen early in this draft. Much like last year when the team selected two linebackers in a row, Pittsburgh will move quickly to fill their needs at guard and center.

- Can Branden Albert play left tackle? We think so, and so does the offensive line coach for one AFC East team. Albert is ranked as their No. 4 offensive tackle.- If the draft were this weekend, we hear Miami would select defensive end Chris Long. Expect the team to start negotiations soon with Long, Jake Long and Matt Ryan. Vernon Gholston may be a sleeper in those discussions as well.- Speaking of Gholston, will the Rams let the talented pass rusher get by them with the second pick? We hear that the Rams are not fond of Gholston’s ability as a true defensive end and would rather add to the interior defensive line or offensive tackle should a trade not present itself.
