Newerascouting’s Scott Porter sits down with FIU’s Greg Hickman.
Scott Porter: What are your greatest strengths?
Greg Hickman: My quickness, reaction and how smart I am combined with my god given ability to play the game.
Scott Porter: What are your goals for the NFL?
Greg Hickman: My first goal is to get the opportunity to play in the NFL. Once I get that opportunity my goal is to maintain and go from there.
Scott Porter: What do you feel are your greatest accomplishments?
Greg Hickman: I haven’t had many awards or anything like that but I feel as a team going to a bowl game my Freshmen and Senior season is a great accomplishment. We won a bowl game my Freshmen season. Playing in back to back bowl games at Florida International was a great achievement for this school and having an big impact in those bowl games was an accomplishment for me.
Scott Porter: What kind of person is an NFL team getting in Greg Hickman?
Greg Hickman: They are getting an outgoing person who loves life in general. I bring a lot of energy in everything I do on the field and off the field. I put a lot of time into preparation including film studying and I am an overall great person to be around and play around.
Scott Porter: What are your hobbies off the field?
Greg Hickman: I like to watch football when I am not playing. I like watching sports in general and I am big joke teller.
Scott Porter: What advice do you have for a kid in your situation that may not be playing for a major football program but is producing and working his way up?
Greg Hickman: I would tell them to stay patient and don’t worry about it. Everything will take care of itself in time. It is in god’s hand and he will work it out. The cream always rises to the top.
Scott Porter: How has been your biggest influence throughout your career?
Greg Hickman: I would mention a few people. My mother and my step father come to mind first. My grandmother and my high school coach, Keith Newman who use to play in the NFL. They have all pushed me and kept me going to get the most out of me.
Scott Porter: What are you looking forward to the most about your opportunity in the NFL?
Greg Hickman: Just living a dream I have had since I was a young child. It will be nice to say I made my dream come true for something I have worked very hard at.
Scott Porter: What are you doing to prepare yourself?
Greg Hickman: I am working for Cooper strength and training. First thing we do is work on exercising our minds to prepare mentally. We go through a routing of stretching, flexibility, push ups and ab stretching. They are working with me to get stronger and improve on body fat and all of that stuff to get me ready.
