Scott Porter: What do you feel are your greatest strengths?
Derricus Purdy: I feel my greatest strengths include my ability to cover. I feel I excel in man to man coverage. My speed is a big strength of mine. I can run with any WR man to man. I have great technique, I have good hip movement and cat like instincts.
Scott Porter: What are your goals for the NFL?
Derricus Purdy: My first goal is to get on a team and make an NFL roster. I want to be that guy who comes in and give a team a spark and helps them win games. I want to be a household name in the NFL.
Scott Porter: Is there a player in the NFL that you model your game after?
Derricus Purdy: Charles Woodson of the Green Bay Packers. He is very humble like myself, he works very hard and is a low key person. I had a coach who coached me who talked about him a lot and showed me a lot of film on him. I studied him and I feel like watching him has made me wiser and he is a guy I really look up to. I want to be one of the best like he is.
Scott Porter: Do you have a favorite memory while playing college football?
Derricus Purdy: I would say my favorite memory was winning the SWAC championship. I had a big part in my team getting there and to win that game made all of our hard work well worth it. We had started off 1-3 and then won 8 straight games. It is something I will never forget.
Scott Porter: What are you looking forward to the most about your opportunity in the NFL?
Derricus Purdy: I am a man of god. Being able to play in the name of Jesus Christ is something I am looking forward to. I get all of the glory but in reality it all belongs to him. I am excited to continue to play the game of football in the name of the lord Jesus Christ.
Scott Porter: What will you miss most about college football?
Derricus Purdy: My teammates that I played with. The guys I came in with and finished with and all of the teammates I played with while at Texas Southern. We fought together, we ate together, we struggled together, we won together, we lost together. We had struggling times but those times defined us and kept us going. We were always there together and we accomplished a lot of things together. I will miss being a part of at team with these guys.
Scott Porter: What will you be working on from now until draft time?
Derricus Purdy: I am training real hard right now. I am working with Allen Langford and he has been great. I am working on an NFL like work out to help me out. I really respect him and he is helping me become an overall better player. My body is real sore right now but it has been great. I have been studying a lot of film especially on myself. I am working on my weaknesses to the best of my ability and I have been working hard to get my mind and body right for my shot.
Scott Porter: What do you feel will be the toughest adjustment from the college level to the pro level?
Derricus Purdy: The speed of the game. The speed of the game is much different from college. The game is also much more physical in the NFL. The NFL is a different type of an animal. In college you are pit bulls out there fighting other pit bulls, in the NFL you are fighting lions so you have to become a lion to survive. There will be a lot of adjustments and I am looking forward to the challenge. You always have to be adjusting and learning quick in the NFL. The speed, strength and power will be a big adjustment for anyone.
