Tiger Hebert breaks down the team needs of the San Francisco 49ers letting you know where the team’s focus will be this offseason during free agency and the 2012 NFL draft.

The ‘Niners surprised everyone except maybe the Harbaugh family this year.  What head coach John Harbaugh was able to do with that team was remarkable.  Do not be surprised to see this franchise restored to a perennial contender again.

Key Free Agents: Alex Smith (QB), Ted Ginn (WR), Dashon Goldson (FS), Larry Grant (ILB), Josh Morgan (WR), Carlos Rogers (CB)

Wide Receiver: People want to complain about Alex Smith, but what does he really have to work with?  Vernon Davis is a stud, but other than that he doesn’t have much help.  Michael Crabtree has not even come close to living up to the hype surrounding him when he was drafted, and quite frankly he doesn’t seem to scare anyone.  This team needs to get another weapon to at least balance the field out and maybe we will see if Crabtree can become a playmaker at this level.

Cornerback: The ‘Niners only signed Carlos Rodgers to a one year deal, so locking him into a new deal is paramount.  Adding depth to possibly compete with Terrell Brown on the other side would be something they should look at too.

Safety: Dashon Goldson has probably had better years, but if the price is right I actually anticipate him being back with San Fran. However I would expect them to pick up a safety or two via the draft or free agency. The Harbaughs are all about competition, so don’t be surprised about depth additions to push starters.
