Joe Gaiter: Who is Jamarkus Gaskins?

Jamarkus Gaskins: I’m a hard working individual though with dreams of one day accomplishing my ultimate goal of playing football at the professional level. I won’t be denied and I’ll do whatever it takes to make my dream a reality. Not just for me, but for my family and the ones closest to me.

Joe Gaiter: How will you prove yourself on the field?

Jamarkus Gaskins: I will prove myself on the field the same way I have been my whole life and that’s with hard work. My coach told me a long time ago hard works trumps talent all the time and I’ve learned to live by that.

Joe Gaiter: What are some of your goals in the NFL?

Jamarkus Gaskins: My first goal is to make some team’s roster. After that it’s just to continue to play the game I love and to hopefully one day see myself starting and winning championships.

Joe Gaiter: What are some of your accomplishments?

Jamarkus Gaskins: I was a 1st team All American. I was named the SIAC Defensive player of the year, Region 2 Defensive player of the year and Division 2 Defensive player of the year.

Joe Gaiter: What are your biggest strengths on the field?

Jamarkus Gaskins: I think my biggest strength on the field is the fact I’m confident and I have no fear. This lets me react when I’m on the field other than thinking during a certain play.

Joe Gaiter: What is the hardest part about playing your position?

Jamarkus Gaskins: The hardest part about playing safety is my mistakes result in 6 points. There’s no one behind me on the field so I have to be sure when I react and not miss.

Joe Gaiter:How will you elevate your skills to a NFL level?

Jamarkus Gaskins: I’m going to elevate my skills through hard work and being coachable, I know my talent is still raw because I believe my potential is just that much higher and when I finally get coached up the proper way, the world will know.

Joe Gaiter: What will you miss most about your school?
Jamarkus Gaskins: I’m going to miss the school pride, the tradition and just the fights my teammates and I went through during the seasons. Games when people thought we didn’t stand a chance to the games when all you heard was our band because we we’re making that many plays on the field.

Joe Gaiter: Who has been your biggest influence in your football career?

Jamarkus Gaskins: My biggest influence has been my friends, they keep my head on straight and at the same time they keep me hungry. They are honest with me when others aren’t. I can have a ball out game but they always remind me of the play I missed a tackle or the play I let a receiver behind me. So I know when they say good game I’m really doing something right out on the field.

Joe Gaiter: Who can you compare yourself to that currently plays in the NFL?

Jamarkus Gaskins: I like to compare myself to Troy Polamalu. I like how you can see him running with a slot receiver during pass to just blitzing off the edge and stuffing the run. He roams and makes plays and that’s the level I want to see my game at one day.
