Robert Alfaro Jr. breaks down the team needs of the San Diego Chargers, letting you know where the team’s focus will be this offseason during free agency and the 2012 NFL draft
San Diego Chargers
The Chargers always have playoff expectations every year as they are a good regular season team under coach Norv Turner, but struggle to make noise in the playoffs.
Key free agents: Mike Tolbert (RB), Vincent Jackson (WR), Patrick Crayton (WR), Randy McMichael (TE), Bob Sanders (SS)
Left tackle: Jared Gaither stepped in nicely when Marcus McNeill went down. It is unfortunate, that due to injuries he might be forced out of football. Look for Chargers to add depth to this position and force Gaither to compete for playing time in 2012.
Wide Receiver: If Vincent Jackson walks in free agency, this becomes a huge offseason priority to fill. The Chargers have plenty of young guys at this position, but none have shown game breaking skills and ability to stretch the defense, which is a huge part of coach Norv Tuner’s Offense.
Center: The Chargers need to keep center Nick Hardwick, who is considering retirement. If not, Center is going to become a major point of emphasis in the offseason.
