Scott Porter: What do you feel are your greatest strengths?
Bryan Thomas: I am long and rangy and I understand concepts very well. I am very coach able and learn quickly. I have a very high football IQ. I understand the game as I would call myself a student of the game. I feel like I have been coached well from Florida to North Alabama. I played under Urban Meyer and learn a lot while at Florida. I have good anticipation and reaction time. I cover a lot of ground and I feel I have all of the tools to succeed in the NFL.
Scott Porter: What are your goals for the NFL?
Bryan Thomas: My goals are to make a team and contribute right away. I want to excel on special teams and work my way up from there. I want to prove that I am a dependable player and earn a starting spot. I would like to be the captain of a defense for a long time to come.
Scott Porter: Is there a player in the NFL that reminds you of yourself? Or a player that you watch on film and pick stuff up from him?
Bryan Thomas: Bart Scott the LB for the New York Jets comes to mind. He was undrafted and nobody really gave him a chance coming out. He has been successful in the NFL for a long time and he has a great intensity level. My name isn’t out there on a lot of lists or anything. I am not expecting to get all of this buzz like other guys are getting. I just want the opportunity to prove that a guy like me has the ability and tools to play in the NFL. I feel like coming out of college I had a lot of attention but I have been forgotten about now and I want to prove that I have the skill set to play in the NFL. I have the faith and I understand this is a business so I don’t want to waste anyone’s time but I just need the chance to prove that to someone.
Scott Porter: What is your favorite memory while play college football?
Bryan Thomas: I can remember a time at North Alabama it was a big time game vs/ Southern Arkansas my Junior season. Things were not going well for us and we needed someone to make a play to change the game around. Someone needed to step up and turn this around for us. I picked off the ball and scored. The look in my teammates eyes was just amazing. It was a real good feeling to me with everything I had been through. I felt like it was a big step forward and I continue to step forward to reach my dream. It felt good because at times I would take a few steps forward then a few backwards and this was really a moment in my career where I felt I really started going forward. I proved I could make big plays with the game on the line.
Scott Porter: What hobbies do you have off the field?
Bryan Thomas: I like to play basketball and listen to music. Football is really my only hobby to be honest. I am constantly trying to get better and thinking about football. I love watching football and playing football. I constantly quiz myself on football and go over things in my head while I am not playing.
Scott Porter: What type of person and player is an NFL team getting in Bryan Thomas?
Bryan Thomas: They are getting a very dedicated and determined player. They are getting a player who will get the task done whatever that is they ask in me. I will do the task to the best of my ability I can promise that. I am accountable, I have never been late to anything, they won’t have to worry about any of that stuff with me. I understand this is a business but at the same time they are not just getting someone who is playing because money is being thrown at me. I truly love the game and give everything I’ve got to it. I understand that respect is earned not given. I won’t expect anything to be given to me I will earn it.
Scott Porter: What is the toughest part about playing safety?
Bryan Thomas: You have to be real smart to play this position. Safeties don’t just cover but you have to play the run and pass well and adjust and read the play before it happens. You have to be able to think and read on the fly. The mental capacity has to be really good to play the safety position.
Scott Porter: What are you looking forward to the most about your opportunity in the NFL?
Bryan Thomas: Just the fact of being there. Following my dream and getting the opportunity to showcase myself and put myself up against the best is what really excites me. The opportunity to get into a camp and measuring my abilities to theirs. I am looking forward to practicing with and playing against guys I’ve watched as a kid.
Scott Porter: How would you describe your style of play?
Bryan Thomas: If I have to get in the box and bring the heat I will do it. I am a good open field tackler and coverage. I am a 2 dimensional safety, meaning I can cover and tackle. I feel I can do it from both aspects of the safety position. My size gives me the ability to be physical. I love to be physical and that is a big part of my game. I cover a lot of field and I am very dependable. I am an every down player. That is how I would describe my style of play.
