New Era Scouting’s newest scout, Brad Stricker, breaks down his version of the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft.

    MOCK COMMENTS
1. Carolina Panthers Cam Newton They want nothing to do with Jimmy Clausen
2. Denver Broncos Marcell Dareus Best way to build is on the line
3. Buffalo Bills (Trade to the Green Bay Packers) Von Miller Imagine Von Miller and Clay Matthews rushing the passer. Scary.  The Packers are willing to trade picks with their success in the late rounds of recent drafts
4. Cincinnati Bengals AJ Green They need a game breaker and TOcho are soon to be gone
5. Arizona Cardinals (Trade to the Philadelphia Eagles) Patrick Peterson Best player in the draft.  Will come in and contribute right away for a team that can compete
6. Cleveland Browns (Trade with Tennessee Titans) Blaine Gabbert Titans are surprised to see a “franchise” quarterback fall and jump on the opportunity.
7. San Francisco 49ers Prince Amukamara Seems to be a Jim Harbaugh type of player.  Physical, tested corner who will immediately improve 49ers defense
8. Tennessee Titans (Browns pick) Robert Quinn Cleveland traded down to get more picks.  Start with the defensive line which is a huge area of concern.  Get a potential game changer at DE.
9. Dallas Cowboys Tyron Smith They love the athletic ability and the chance of having their LT spot locked down for years.  Now who plays quarterback?
10. Washington Redskins Julio Jones Need a dynamic playmaker for their offense.  Look for QB later in the draft.
11 Houston Texans Aldon Smith Versatile DE/OLB who can get to the QB.  Long and athletic with room to grow.
12 Minnesota Vikings Nick Fairley Vikings take potential replacement for the Williams’.
13 Detroit Lions Cameron Jordan Athletic DE who will come in and play from Day 1.
14 St. Louis Rams Da’Quan Bowers Steal at 14.  Rams build defense since top WR’s are off the board.
15 Miami Dolphins (Trade to Seattle) Jake Locker Seattle wants their hometown QB.  Hasselback will give Locker the opportunity to sit and learn.
16 Jacksonville Jaguars Ryan Kerrigan Solid DE with a nonstop motor.  Jaguars continue to build that defensive line.
17 New England Patriots – from Oakland JJ Watt Strong, Physical player that can help shore up the Patriots defense
18 San Diego Chargers Muhammed Wilkerson A huge athlete to improve the defensive line.  Raw but ton of potential
19 New York Giants Anthony Castonzo They need to shore up that offensive line
20 Tampa Bay Buccaneers Adrian Clayborn Have a huge need at DE.  Clayborn is a underrated talent who fell in the draft because his numbers fell his senior year.
21 Kansas City Chiefs Phil Taylor Chiefs need a space eating nose tackle to take pressure off the linebackers
22 Indianapolis Colts Mike Pouncey Could go OT here, but look at the impact his brother had with the Steelers.  Can start right away even for Peyton Manning
23 Philadelphia Eagles (Arizona’s pick) Gabe Carimi Get a LT for your new franchise quarterback
24 New Orleans Saints Justin Houston A versatile playmaker to improve a defense that was embarrassed by Seattle in the playoffs
25 Seattle Seahawks (Miami’s pick) Akeem Ayers Miami finds their replacement for the much missed Karlos Dansby.  Can get a RB later in the draft
26 Baltimore Ravens Jimmy Smith Need help at CB because 3 of their 4 from last year are free agents.  Character concerns not an issue with Ray Lewis in charge of the defense.
27 Atlanta Falcons Derek Sherrod Improve the offensive line to protect their most valuable player, Matt Ryan.  Improve WR and DE later in draft
28 New England Patriots Brooks Reed Patriots continue to add to the front seven of their defense.
29 Chicago Bears Nate Solder Bears badly need a tackle to protect Cutler
30 New York Jets Cameron Hayward Jets improve an aging defensive line with a productive Hayward
31 Pittsburgh Steelers Ben Ijalana Steelers grab another lineman
32 Green Bay Packers (Buffalo Bill’s pick) Stephen Paea With extra picks they continue to fill holes
