Joe Gaiter:What will you miss the most about playing at Syracuse ?
Jose Cruz:I’m going to miss being around my teammates and the coaching staff. Syracuse is great place. The people are great and they know how to make you feel at home. I have only attended SU for a year and it feels like I was there my whole college career.
Joe Gaiter: Who is Jose Antonio Cruz?
Jose Cruz: I am a family man. I love my family and would do anything for them. I am a hardhat and lunch pale, blue collar, type of guy. I work hard and do what it takes to succeed and make a name for my family and myself.
Joe Gaiter: How will you prove yourself on the field?
Jose Cruz:I will always work hard and do what it takes to succeed. I have transferred a couple times and each time I have had to prove myself, so its not anything new for me.
Joe Gaiter: What goals do you have for the NFL?
Jose Cruz:I just want to be given an opportunity to play in the NFL. I know once I get the opportunity, I will show whichever organization that it was the right decision.
Joe Gaiter: What’s your hobbies off the field?
Jose Cruz:I love the sun and the beach. There’s nothing like a hot day in Hawaii in which I can spend the day at the beach.
Joe Gaiter:What is your biggest strength on the field?
Jose Cruz:My biggest strengths are my blocking ability and my ability to learn. I love to block and just watch a running back spring for 60 yds down field. (Delone Carter, Pinstripe Bowl)
Joe Gaiter: What is the hardest part about playing TE?
Jose Cruz:The hardest part about playing tight end would be balancing one’s ability to block and to be a receiver. There is more to study as a tight end because you have run blocking schemes, protection schemes, and pass game schemes that all have to be known equally within a week game plan.
Joe Gaiter: How will you elevate your skills to a NFL level?
Jose Cruz:I will do whatever it takes. I am always open to positive criticism and help from other players and coaches on how to improve my skills. I will always come to work prepared to give my all and get better each and every day.
Joe Gaiter: Who has been your biggest influence in your football career?
Jose Cruz: This may be Surprising to some people but I would say that my Younger brother, Mike Cruz, has been my biggest influence in my football career. Mike plays and starts TE for Pittsburgh. Getting to play in the same conference as well and on the same field with my younger brother was great. One of the best football memories I have would be playing Pitt at home with the Cruz brothers starting TE for both Syracuse and Pitt.
Joe Gaiter::Which NFL player reminds you alot of yourself?
Jose Cruz:I try to mirror my game after a pair of tight ends. Jason Witten, Tony Gonzalez and Tony Moeaki. All of these guys are great all around tight ends. They are affective in both the run and pass game.
