Scott Porter: What are your goals for the next level?
Orkeys Auriene: My goals consist mostly of getting drafted as high as I possibly can, put myself in the best position. Go to a team with a great defense and add to that. Start as a nickel back from day one and learn the game as quick as possible. Once I get used to the game and the defense I am in, I want to start as soon as possible. I will work hard to earn that starting job.
Scott Porter: What are your biggest strengths?
Orkeys Auriene: My biggest strength is my football intelligence, I know the game very well. I use that to my advantage. I would also say two of my biggest strengths are my technique and my coverage skills.
Scott Porter: What player in the NFL reminds you of yourself?
Orkeys Auriene: There are two cornerbacks I see in myself. The first one is Titans CB Cortland Finnegan, because he is feisty and a scrapper, like me, and from a smaller school. The other one is Packers CB Charles Woodson. He can play in the slot, the nickel, safety, he can do it all. Our size isn’t the same but we can do the same things.
Scott Porter: What are you looking forward to the most about your shot at the NFL?
Orkeys Auriene: Making an immediate impact for whoever gets me. I want to excel on special teams from day one. At Lafayette I did it all, on defense, played all the special teams and did well on those. Kick returner, cover the slot, play the nickel, play outside. I am very versatile and can fit in wherever I am needed.
Scott Porter: What type of a person is an NFL team getting in Orkeys Auriene?
Orkeys Auriene: First and foremost, they are getting a great character guy who is going to work about as hard as anyone will. I will overachieve and strive to be the best I can be. I am going to do more then what is expected of me. I work hard every day. I can’t stress enough that I am an extremely hard worker who plays with a lot of passion and love of the game. I love to play football.
Scott Porter: What will you miss most about college football?
Orkeys Auriene: The atmosphere that comes with the college level. The closeness I had with my teammates and winning games with these guys. Celebrating big wins and going out after the game. I will miss my DB coach a lot, he guided me and was always there for me. He recruited me and was like a father to me.
Scott Porter: What are your greatest accomplishments?
Orkeys Auriene: I feel it is the fact that I started since day one of my freshman year here. I played in 48 out of 48 games and started in 38 of 48 games. We will hopefully win the Sun Belt this year.
Scott Porter: What hobbies do you have off the field?
Orkeys Auriene: I love shopping. I have a lot of shoes and clothes and I love to eat. I love watching and playing basketball. One of my favorite things to eat is Mac n Cheese.
Scott Porter: Growing up, did you have a favorite player and team?
Orkeys Auriene: Not really a team, but my favorite players were Randy Moss and Deion Sanders. I was a huge Chicago Bulls fan in basketball.
